    The Opto-Mechanical Technician will have experience problem-solving, trouble-shooting and will have system-level thinking. This person will have hands on experience with hardware and will have general knowledge of Python systems, drones and/or 3D printers. This individual will be working daily with the Advanced Technology department and will be the leader in many aspects of driving solution and improvement of systems and process forward. This person is well-organized, works great in a collaborative environment and knows how to work through problems to find best in class solutions. This person will be a key player and leader for the Advanced team.

    The Position

    The Opto-Mechanical Technician should be able to:


    • Work on new instrumentation that is being built relating to measurements
    • Run experiments to test out the new instrumentation – extremely hands on
    • Drive constant cycle of improvement for systems and processes that are currently in place, but may be lacking
    • Disassemble failed units as required and determine extent of repair required 
    • Report significant deviations from standards to engineering for review, instruction and authorization
    • Obtain mechanical and optical subassemblies; Install electronic components
    • Inspect material for cosmetic defects and conduct test range of functions at given intervals to ensure proper operation of numerous components during assembly, using test fixtures in conjunction with computer programs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes
    • Use of Lab Grade equipment –testing it and then providing solutions for purchasing, building and problem – solving
    • Integrate sensors i.e. trouble-shooting
    • Work closely with team to assist in planning and implementing measurements for new instrumentation

    The Person

    It is desired that the candidate has the following qualifications for the position:


    • Bachelor’s degree within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Optics High degree of manual dexterity
    • 3- 4 years’ recent experience in building units, projector sub-assemblies, final assemblies, associated peripherals from start to finish, peer inspection, small parts assembly, electronic test familiarity with O-scopes, multi-meters, and spectrum analyzers
    • Report significant deviations from standards to engineering for review, instruction and authorization
    • Disassemble failed units as required and determine extent of repair required
    • Problem-solving skills and System-level thinking/system integration knowledge
    • Basic Coding skills – Python
    • Sensor experience
    • Knowledge of use in 3D printers, Drones, Auto CAD, and a passion for high-end technical products
    • Collision/Fault detection
    • Need to be have an innovative and curious demeanor – virtuous at best practice abilities to plainly communicate findings and report findings precisely
    • Hands on experience with prototyping equipment/hardware
    • Skilled at working with outside vendors – Liaison for them
    • Willingness to travel up to 30%
    • Possess the ability and willingness to roll up sleeves and execute to get the job done
